Understanding the game

Use your strategic mind to pass through the levels to achieve the end goal and protect research facility of the scientists. You are the last line of defence for the scientists. Strategically place turrets to fight off waves of enemy ships trying to destroy the scientists research. Fight your way to the final level, where you will be tested to manage resources and upgrades to your turrets and abilities.

Process of Composition

For Tower Defence, I wanted to create the atmosphere of always being on the edge and the music feels like it is constantly rising. I used a pulsing bassline to acheive the sense of driving on and pushing towards the next wave. A low kick was used to control the rhythm and push the track forward. I used a hi-hat to break up the rhythms of the bass - the hi-hat was also used to spread the tracks across the frequency spectrum. This would allow the song to cut through the mix of the game as the turrets sound effects were heavily based in the low-mid frequencies.

Integration

This loop was implemented through Unity Engines audio engine. It was set to continuously loop through the Menu, Level 1, Level 2, etc. The menu loop was attached as a component to menu scene.  The tracks also had an audio listener component attached and were routed to the audio mixer.
